Answer is no. I installed carpet for 30 years and this was tried back in the early 70's when the seaming iron came out. The bottom is not grooved and doesn't leave as much glue behind as a Roberts seaming iron does. The seam is not as strong and will bust open when using a power stretcher, or even a knee kicker if its too close to the seam. Save your 10 bucks put it towards the right tool. You will go through 10 steam irons before you wear out a Roberts iron so what are you saving?
